Become an e2 Student

Earth to students everywhere . . .

Become an e2 Student and learn about the environment and what YOU can do to help improve the world around you. e2 Students commit to making small changes in their lifestyles that can have a big impact on helping make the world a better place for everyone.

There are four easy steps to becoming an e2 Student:

First - Calculate your ecological footprint using the calculator to the right.  An ecological footprint is a rough estimate of how much land is needed to support your current lifestyle and is associated with how much energy you use, the kinds of foods you eat and a number of other environmental factors. Based on your calculated footprint, you can assess the sustainability of your current lifestyle.

Second - Choose three things from the checklist (or fill in your own idea in the box marked other great ideas) that YOU can do to reduce your impact on the environment.

Third - Fill out the e2 Student application with your name, address, grade level, and school.  You will receive an e2 Student card in the mail within a few weeks that is good for discounts and specials at participating local businesses. (For a list of businesses click here.)

Fourth - Spread the word!  Encourage your friends and family to become e2 Students or e2 Citizens and start helping to make the world a better place!

OTHER WAYS TO HELP - Do an environmental Science Fair Project.  For a list of environmental project ideas click here.

What's your carbon footprint? Use the carbon calculator to find out where YOU stand.

Click here for the calculator instructions.

Nifty project ideas!

Share your e2 ideas with all the students at your school. Many of these projects can be done by a group or students.

What e2 Students Can Do

e2 Students are committed to education and the environment.  An important part of being an e2 Student is making decisions that reduce negative environmental impacts associated with human behavior, and promote a more sustainable future for people and other living organisms on Earth.

Humans interact with the environment in many different ways and have a big influence on the land, ocean, and atmosphere.  Humans use many different types of resources (examples include water, energy, plants, animals and many more), and therefore it is important to understand where the resources come from, how they are processed, and what happens after we consume them.  The different ways in which humans choose to consume resources has a large influence on whether or not current lifestyle patterns are sustainable.
